Job Responsibilities

The primary purpose of the position is to provide immediate recognition, evaluation, care, stabilization, and disposition of a generally diversified population of patients in response to acute illness and injury in the Emergency Department (ED). Duties include but are not limited to: Treating injuries and illnesses in the ED as an independent practitioner who is board certified in Emergency Medicine. Work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams and have membership in hospital committees to ensure effective communication between ED clinicians and other hospital medical staff. Work with residents in the academic affiliate as they learn emergency medicine skills.

Working Hours: The schedule is 80 hours per pay period with rotating shifts to cover the 24/7/365 patient care needs of the emergency department.

  • Competitive Starting Annual Salary: $275,000-345,000. Additionally, employees may be eligible to receive up to $15,000 in performance-based pay annually. Furthermore, employees can qualify for Proficiency Awards, which are available in addition to Pay for Performance incentives. Regular salary reviews will occur every two years, and all employees will receive cost-of-living adjustments annually.
  • Education Debt Reduction Program: This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) , a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements by VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply .
  • Continuing Education : As a VA physician, you can earn CME credits at no cost. You can receive $1,000 or more annually and five days of paid absences to attend CME courses (conditions apply).
  • Paid Time Off : You will receive 208 hours or approximately 26 days of annual leave a year. Unlimited accumulation of paid sick time and 11 paid federal holidays will begin accruing upon entry.
  • Workers Compensation: Consultation, review, referral, and processing support for all employees regarding work-related injuries and occupational illnesses.
  • Liability Protection : VA physicians are covered under federal tort laws and may be defended by the United States against allegations of malpractice or negligence.

Compensation Information:
$275000.00 / Annually - $345000.00 / Annually
